Can you hide some of your friends on Facebook?

In one of my contacts profile on facebook who is on my friend list, on the main profile screen of his, it says he has 109 friends, but when i click see all his friends, on the top it says showing 102 of his friends.

You can put people on a limited profile list but that does not affect the friend count but blocking someone does.
